Aberdeen Football Club’s fans are to benefit from the donation of a lifesaving defibrillator by Aberdeen based D M Wood Medical.
The important donation was made possible thanks to local businessman John Campbell, who is a long-standing member of the Aberdeen Lions Club and Vice Chairman of the British Heart Foundation.
John won the opportunity to decide where the HeartStart First Aid defibrillator should be based as the result of a competition, which D M Wood Medical ran during last year’s Offshore Europe exhibition.
“I decided to donate the defibrillator to the football club’s fans,” said John, “as a machine like this could really make a difference at Pittodrie where so many supporters and large crowds attend each week."
“I know this life saving device could be of great benefit to the club and its supporters, and I am delighted to have had the chance to help out thanks to D M Wood.”
The Heart Start First Aid defibrillator is specifically designed to allow first-responders to effectively treat cardiac arrest victims in emergency situations.
The defibrillator will be based permanently at Pittodrie stadium and should ensure that anyone suffering a cardiac arrest at the stadium will have a greatly increased chance of survival.
“The First Aid defibrillator is ideal for treating cardiac arrest victims prior to the arrival of the ambulance paramedics,” explained D M Wood Medical’s Managing Director, David Wood.
Jimmy Calderwood, Manager of Aberdeen Football Club added:
“We’re delighted to receive this very valuable piece of medical equipment. Our supporters are the most important people at the club. It is vital that we can accommodate them to the highest standard and that we have the necessary means to guarantee the highest levels of health and safety.”
